Everbound by Brodi Ashton

Genre: YA Fantasy
Series: Everneath #2
Publication Date: 22nd January 2013
Pages: 358
Book Source: own purchase

Synopsis: Nikki Beckett could only watch as her boyfriend, Jack, sacrificed himself to save her, taking her place in the Tunnels of the Everneath for eternity — a debt that should’ve been hers. She’s living a borrowed life, and she doesn’t know what to do with the guilt. And every night Jack appears in her dreams, lost and confused and wasting away.

Desperate for answers, Nikki turns to Cole, the immortal bad boy who wants to make her his queen — and the one person least likely to help. But his heart has been touched by everything about Nikki, and he agrees to assist her in the only way he can: by taking her to the Everneath himself.

Nikki and Cole descend into the Everneath, only to discover that their journey will be more difficult than they’d anticipated — and more deadly. But Nikki vows to stop at nothing to save Jack — even if it means making an incredible sacrifice of her own.

In this enthralling sequel to Everneath, Brodi Ashton tests the bonds of destiny and explores the lengths we’ll go to for the ones we love.

My Thoughts:
I raved about Everneath and was hoping Everbound would live up to my high expectations but I wasn't really expecting it to, you know second book syndrome and all. Duh ... Brodi Ashton killed it with this installment.

I love Greek Mythology and the popularity of YA mythology re-tellings has presented an interesting mix of winners and duds but the inspiration Ashton takes from the myths of Hades & Persephone and Orpheus & Eurydice makes my jaded heart glad :)

Everbound is the amped up, action packed version of Everneath, not quite the same depth of emotion that I loved in the first book but more heart-in-mouth urgency and sinister undercurrent. We navigate the Everneath with Nikki and sneaky bastard Cole and get to know the intricacies and vagaries of that menacing place.

Even though Jack doesn't physically feature in Everbound, he's kept upfront in the reader's mind via Nikki's flashbacks, we gain insight to their relationship and Nikki's driven, steadfast character.

O-M-G that ending ... I didn't see it coming, I should have, the clues were there, subtle but there. And Cole ... I want to hurt you bad!

If I offer up a kidney can I have the final book in this addictive trilogy NOW??

Evertrue *sigh* I will be all over this one come January 21st 2014, my birthday is the 22nd, it had better be happy Brodi Ashton ... just sayin' ;)

Cover: Yup gorgeous, this series comes with a cover Fairy Godmother

  3. Definitely will be reading the series, but will probably wait so I can read all three at once! My son and his girlfriend will probably love these books too as they are Greek Mythology freaks.
